Eurotck 2010 Conference

Dates
28th March to 1st April. First meeting evening of 28th March, arrive by 17:00; depart by 10:00 on 1st April.

Themes Of The Conference

There is full information on the themes page.

Who is The Conference For?
Member care workers in mission agencies across Europe and beyond - this is one reason why Eurotck 2010 immediately follows on after the European Member Care Conference (EMCC) at the same location; teachers & administrators in international schools with European children; parents of TCKs; church leaders concerned for family welfare and anyone else concerned for cross-cultural families. There will not be a separate adult TCK track, but we look forward to welcoming many adult TCKs joining us, bringing presentations and adding to our discussions.

Location
Hotel Servigroup Papa Luna, Peñiscola, Spain.
Peñiscola is an historic small town between Valencia and Barcelona on the Mediterranean coast.

The nearest international airports are at Barcelona and Valencia and there are regular trains into Benicarlo-Peñiscola train station from Valencia Estacio del Nord (approx 1½ hour journey) and Barcelona (approx 2 hours)
For more details of train travel use this website:
http://www.renfe.es/horarios/english/index.html

We are booking a bus to leave Barcelona El Prat Airport around 15:00 on the 28th March. The return journey will leave the conference centre around 08:30 on the 1st April. The journey time is just over 2 hours. The exact timings will be fixed to ensure that we can pick up as many delegates as possible on the 28th and ensure that everyone is back to the airport in time for check-in. We will not be able to arrange travel to suit times way outside of these hours, so please bear this in mind when booking flights. The estimated cost is €30 for the return (round trip), although we may need to charge slightly more if the bus is less than 75% full.
This is much cheaper and more convenient than the train. If you need to travel by bus let us know when you register. If this only works for one way that can be arranged too.

Cost
€220 or £209
All costs of registration, full board, materials and conference centre room hire included.
This cost is based on sharing in twin/double rooms.  Anyone wishing to stay in a single room will need to pay a supplement of €60 to the hotel. If you wish to stay in a single room, please inform the planning committee at the mk_tck e-mail address below.

Non-refundable deposit of €50, no refund for late cancellations. €20 reduction for husband and wife sharing materials.

How to book
Go to the Global Connections website where payment can be made in Euros or the sterling equivalent. The details requested on the booking form can be e-mailed to instead of sending by standard post.

Account number: 240 9231432 00
BLZ: 60070024

UK Delegates
UK delegates have been encountering some difficulties paying into the Euro-zone and incurring heavy bank charges. As a result of this we have arranged that payments can now be made in sterling via Global Connections. Anyone wanting to pay this way should phone David Wright on 020 7207 2157 where credit/debit card payments will be accepted or a cheque payment arranged. The current cost in sterling is £209. This may need to be changed if there is a major shift in the exchange rate.

Practical Information
1.
We have set no final deadline for booking, so new delegates are still welcome to sign up even at this very late stage. However, our buses between the airport and the conference centre are full now and there is no guarantee that we will be able to arrange any transport.
2. Almost 30 delegates will also attend EMCC at the same conference centre before Eurotck. The cost of the extra day in between the two isn't covered by either conference fee and will need to paid directly to the centre.
3. Resources - there will be an area set aside to display CDs, DVDs, books, magazines and leaflets for delegates to browse through. If you have resources to share with the rest of us, please bring them, this includes items for sale. This will be a great opportunity to get hold of new resources, possibly a one-off chance in some cases. Collecting payment for resources will be the responsibility of the seller.
4. CDs - every delegate or couple will receive a CD with all of the Power Point presentations, handouts and other background information and references on it as part of the welcome pack included in the conference fee.
Most of our sessions will be recorded and an audio CD produced. This will then be mailed out after the conference to delegates on request for €3 (including postage and packaging). Additional CDs sent to the same address at the same time will be half price. There is no limit to how many copies each person can buy and you can also request that they be posted to friends and colleagues for the same price of €3. Anyone else who would have liked to join us at Eurotck but couldn't, is also welcome to order copies of either the conference resource CD or the audio CD. To order contact Steve Bryant at the mk_tck e-mail on this page under "how to book".

5. National Group Discussions -
one evening has been set aside for national groups to discuss issues specific to each country or special group. A few delegates may wonder which group to join as there are only one or two from their country. In this case, you are invited to choose the disicussion that most closely matches your national and/or ministry interest. The groups we anticipate are
Germany
Latin Americans in Europe
The Netherlands
Norway (possibly meeting with other delegates from Nordic countries)
Switzerland
The UK and other Anglophone countries - we are expecting a large group here and are planning to split into 3 sub-groups - a) Adult TCKs b) Educational Issues and c) Welfare Issues. We are aware that educational and welfare issues are closely linked and that it is often not possible to separate the two. One issue that we would like to consider in both groups b) and c) is UK residency and student finance. There will also be one or two other issues on a short agenda, but we want to keep part of this meeting as an open forum discussion. Any suggestions for major issues that you would like to see raised here can be sent in advance to any member of the Eurotck 2010 Planning Committee.

Inter-mission Kids Education Conference (IMKEC)

The Inter-Mission Kids Education Conference (IMKEC) - was held from the 14th to 17th September 2009. See the ACSI website: www.acsi.org for reports.

Purpose?

The conference was established in the 1990s to bring together educational advisers and overseas Christian schools workers to discuss and plan new initiatives in the education of children from mission families. The recent initiatives have been to set up support organisations for home educators, promote internationalisation in schools, and efforts to recruit teachers across the whole age range from new graduates to active retirees.
